Oscar Birch

published:

Oscar Birch’s work resists polish. What first appears childlike reveals itself as deliberate—layered and textured. His work moves away from perfection.

Often misread, Birch’s paintings are rooted in childhood. They hold traces of the past through thick textures and experimental materials, inviting the viewer to recognize something half-forgotten in themselves.

Texture is the constant. Birch returns to it again and again, building surfaces that feel lived-in and unpolished. The more imperfect the work appears, the closer it comes to what he’s trying to reach.
