SPLAY by Sandrine Letellier

The body is a troublesome thing in Sandrine Letellier's SPLAY. It bleeds, sheds, hungers, rebels, and refuses to behave. Women become werewolves, snakes emerge from bellies, and the familiar rituals of domestic life take on strange, often violent forms.

Written in homage to the radical artist Carolee Schneemann, SPLAY is a fiercely irreverent collection of poems concerned with the female body and the many ways it has been watched, represented, desired, and controlled. Letellier borrows from mythology, art history, and the language of everyday life, twisting them into something grotesque, playful, and occasionally unsettling.
